Best Kept Secret in East Tennessee

University of Tennessee Football, Lady Vol Basketball, Pat Summitt, and the Sunsphere are all things that are what you think of when you speak of Knoxville, TN, but that is not all the area has to offer. Located just west of the Great Smoky Mountains this is a wonderful vacation getaway that has so much to offer. Knoxville has beautiful views of the Smoky Mountains, lakes abound and with beautiful East Tennessee you are far enough south to stay away from most of the snow, yet far enough north to see the beautiful change of colors in the fall. Located approximately one hour from Gatlinburg, TN you are not far from one of the most frequented tourist areas in TN.  The Knoxville area has 5 lakes in the area if you are interested in fishing or just water recreation. There are many hiking trails, swimming areas, parks and of course golf.

This area has become our hottest growing area as far as golf travel is concerned.  With 9 Championship Golf Courses within a 35 minute drive and the Tellico Village area offering us the Townhomes, Lake Front homes and Patio homes this has opened up a whole new area for golfers to enjoy.  It doesn’t hurt that it is an easy area to get to and that with it being a fairly new golf destination the price is very competitive.

We were able to get to ask Adam Jacob, the head golf professional at Tellico Village which has 3 Great golf courses in Tanasi, Toqua and Kahite a few questions about the area and what makes this so special.

What style would you consider the courses at Tellico Village?

Tellico Village has 3 different courses. Each course has its own distinguished styles that separate them. The Links at Kahite is a links style golf course that allows players to get the ball on the ground when they get close to the green. There are large native areas that wind through the entire property at Kahite. Tanasi is a more modern type architecture while Toqua is a more traditional architecture. Both Tanasi and Toqua have holes which border Tellico Lake.

Tell me about what you feel are the signature holes on each course. Describe what makes them special.

Kahite - #9 is an 808 yard Par 6 from the back tee. This makes it the longest hole in the state of Tennessee

Toqua - #14 is a 330 yard Par 4 from the back tee. Reachable for the longer players but beware, cross bunkers and the presence of Tellico Lake all down the left side make this a challenging short hole.

Tanasi - #10 is a 440 yard Par 4 from the back tee. Tellico Lake borders the entire left side of the hole from the tee to the green.

What are some of the accolades the courses have received?

Host site of numerous Tennessee Golf Association Championship and Web.com Tour qualifiers.

Name your favorite local watering hole and restaurants that you think the golfers would enjoy.

The Toqua Grill, Tanasi Grill, or the Yacht Club are all great 19th hole spots.

Tell us about what you think makes the Knoxville / Tellico Village area special

The Knoxville/TV area is special because it is close to the airport, close to the Smokey Mountains, and also goes through the 4 seasons each year giving our property owners the best of both worlds.
